WKU Forensics Team
Competes In Two Tournaments

Bowling Green, Ky. - Members of Western Kentucky University's William E. Bivin Forensic Society competed in weekend speech and debate tournaments in Illinois and Nebraska.

Nine team members competed at the Creighton/Concordia Swing Tournament in Omaha, Neb. The team finished second in individual events sweepstakes behind Kansas State in both portions of the tournament and placed third in the overall debate and individual events sweepstakes.

Eight team members traveled to Normal, Ill., for the Illinois Swing Tournament, hosted by Northeastern College and Illinois State. Western finished third in overall sweepstakes behind Bradley and Illinois State.

Here are individual results from the Creighton/Concordia tournament:

Phillip Wininger, a Bowling Green senior, first in varsity persuasive speaking and third in varsity extemporaneous speaking at Creighton; first in varsity extemporaneous speaking at Concordia.

Keith Blaser, a junior from Evansville, Ind., first in varsity poetry interpretation and fourth in varsity prose interpretation at Creighton; first in varsity poetry interpretation and third in varsity prose interpretation at Concordia.

Raegan Gibson, a junior from Evansville, Ind., first in varsity informative speaking and a semifinalist in varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate at Creighton; second in varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate and second in varsity informative speaking at Concordia.

Caleb Williams, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, second in varsity programmed oral interpretation and third in varsity poetry interpretation; second in varsity programmed oral interpretation at Concordia.

Jennifer Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, quarterfinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate and top novice speaker in debate at Creighton; won the novice Lincoln-Douglas debate tournament and was top novice speaker in debate at Concordia.

Kate Hertweck, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at Concordia.

Here are individual results from the Illinois tournament:

Drew Allen, a sophomore from Brentwood, Tenn., second in varsity poetry interpretation and second in varsity persuasive speaking at Illinois State; first in varsity poetry interpretation at Northeastern.

Adam Henze, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., second in varsity programmed oral interpretation, third in varsity duo interpretation and third in novice prose interpretation at Illinois State; seventh in varsity programmed oral interpretation at Northeastern.

Elizabeth Au, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., second in varsity prose interpretation and third in varsity duo interpretation at Illinois State.

Margaret Au, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., first in varsity prose interpretation at Illinois State.

Andrew Causey, a sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., fourth in varsity programmed oral interpretation and fifth in varsity dramatic interpretation at Illinois State.

Abby Lovan, a freshman from Jeffersonville, Ind., sixth in varsity informative speaking and second in novice poetry at Illinois State.

David Burns, a Bowling Green freshman, fifth in novice poetry and fifth in novice prose at Illinois State; fourth in novice prose at Northeastern.

Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon freshman, third in novice poetry at Illinois State; fifth in varsity persuasive speaking and fifth in novice poetry at Northeastern.
