Western Kentucky University Hosts Forensics
Tournament
Bowling Green, Ky. - Twelve universities competed last
weekend in the Hilltopper Classic, a speech and debate tournament
hosted by WKU's William E. Bivin Forensic Society.
Bradley University finished first in individual events sweepstakes
while the U.S. Military Academy was first in debate sweepstakes.
Western Kentucky University was not eligible for team sweepstakes,
but the following novice members of WKU's speech and debate team
placed in the final rounds at the Oct. 5-6 tournament:
Caleb Williams, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, first in varsity
poetry interpretation, first in varsity programmed oral interpretation
and fifth in varsity persuasive speaking.
Jennifer Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, first in
novice extemporaneous speaking and first in novice impromptu
speaking.
Elizabeth Au, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., first in novice
prose interpretation, second in varsity duo interpretation and
fifth in varsity dramatic interpretation.
Adam Henze, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., second in varsity
duo interpretation, third in varsity dramatic interpretation
and fourth in varsity programmed oral interpretation.
Kate Hertweck, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., semifinalist
in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, second in novice extemporaneous
speaking and fifth in novice impromptu speaking.
Joel Smith, a Murray freshman, second in novice prose interpretation
and third in varsity after-dinner speaking.
Jenny Hyatt, a Cynthiana freshman, second in novice Lincoln-Douglas
debate and fifth in novice extemporaneous speaking.
Jenny Corum, an Auburn freshman, semifinalist in novice Lincoln-Douglas
debate and second in novice impromptu speaking.
Rebecca Simms, a Lebanon freshman, third in novice prose interpretation
and fourth in varsity persuasive speaking.
Nicole Estenfelder, a Florence freshman, fourth in novice prose
interpretation and fifth in varsity poetry interpretation.
David Burns, a Bowling Green freshman, fifth in varsity rhetorical
criticism and sixth in novice prose interpretation.
Abby Lovan, a freshman from Jeffersonville, Ind., fifth in novice
prose interpretation.
