WKU Forensics Team
Wins Ball State Tournament
Bowling Green, Ky. -Western Kentucky University's William E. Bivin Forensic Society took first place in overall sweepstakes at a speech and debate tournament at Ball State University.
Western finished ahead of Ohio State, Eastern Michigan, Indiana and Miami of Ohio in the Oct. 19-20 tournament at Muncie, Ind. Western also received the Benson and Hedges traveling trophy for sustained excellence.
Sophomore Drew Allen was the overall top speaker while junior Keith Blaser was tied for third place.
Individual results from the tournament are as follows:
Drew Allen, a sophomore from Brentwood, Tenn., second in varsity duo interpretation, second in varsity poetry interpretation, third in varsity programmed oral interpretation and fifth in varsity persuasive speaking.
Keith Blaser, a junior from Evansville, Ind., first in varsity poetry interpretation, second in varsity duo interpretation and seventh in varsity prose interpretation.
David Wilkins, a Bardstown senior, first in varsity extemporaneous speaking.
Alisa Ponananta, a Florence senior, first in varsity programmed oral interpretation and second in varsity prose interpretation.
Sarah Sparks, a Morehead senior, first in Lincoln-Douglas debate, fourth in varsity extemporaneous speaking and seventh in varsity impromptu speaking.
Adam Henze, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., first in novice persuasive speaking, first in novice prose interpretation, third and fifth in varsity duo interpretation.
Caleb Williams, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, second in varsity programmed oral interpretation, fifth in varsity duo interpretation and sixth in varsity poetry interpretation.
Elizabeth Au, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., third in varsity duo interpretation, third in novice persuasive speaking, fourth in varsity dramatic interpretation and fourth in varsity prose interpretation.
Andrew Causey, a sophomore from Franklin, Tenn., third in varsity after-dinner speaking, fifth in varsity dramatic interpretation and fifth in varsity programmed oral interpretation.
Jennifer Purcell, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas, fourth in varsity informative speaking and sixth in varsity impromptu speaking.
Stacy Bernaugh, a Bowling Green junior, semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
Phillip Wininger, a Bowling Green senior, second in varsity impromptu speaking and seventh in varsity persuasive speaking.
Katie Tyree, a sophomore from Plymouth, Ind., third in varsity prose interpretation.
Kate Hertweck, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., third in novice impromptu speaking, fourth in varsity rhetorical criticism and fifth in novice extemporaneous speaking.
David Laing, a Louisville senior, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate and third in debate speaker awards.
Raegan Gibson, a junior from Evansville, Ind., fourth in varsity persuasive speaking.
Margaret Au, a sophomore from Evansville, Ind., fourth in varsity poetry interpretation.
Jenny Hyatt, a Cynthiana freshman, second in novice extemporaneous speaking and fifth in novice persuasive speaking.
Jeff Woods, a Florence freshman, second in novice persuasive speaking and sixth in novice impromptu speaking.
David Burns, a Bowling Green freshman, third in novice poetry interpretation, fourth in novice prose interpretation and seventh in varsity rhetorical criticism.
