WKU Engineering Students,
Faculty Member Honored
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University engineering students and a faculty member have been honored by the Kentucky section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Western's student organization was recognized as the state's ASCE Student Club of the Year for its accomplishments in concrete canoe and steel bridge national competitions, its chapter fund-raising efforts and its community involvement in performing engineering tasks on WKU projects.
Matthew A. Dettman, the James D. Scott professor of civil engineering, was named the 2001 Civil Engineer in Education of the Year. Dettman, faculty adviser of the student ASCE group, is director of the Scott Center for Construction and Engineering and serves on the Governor's Council on Earthquake Risk Reduction.
The awards were presented at the state ASCE meeting Oct. 19 in Lexington. The American Society of Civil Engineers is the primary national association for the civil engineering profession.
