WKU Student TV Newscast Nominated
For Regional Emmy
Bowling Green, Ky. - For the second time in three years, WKU NewsChannel 12, the student-produced television newscast at Western Kentucky University, has been nominated for a Mid-South Regional Emmy.
WKU NewsChannel 12’s entry was a 30-minute program devoted to coverage of the 2000 election last November. The students also provided cut-ins during the evening to keep students on campus informed about the election.
While every student could not be listed on the Emmy nomination, many made noteworthy contributions including the following: Stephen Barnett, a graduate student from Versailles, and Amy Jones, 2001 graduate from Morehead, anchors; Chris Freeman, a junior from Newburgh, Ind., producer; Heath Myrick, a 2001 graduate from Carthage, N.C., director/set design/graphics; Erin Milburn, a 2001 graduate from Harrodsburg, Greg Meriwether, a Louisville junior, Jennifer Johnson, a 2001 graduate from Frankfort, and Julie Goodwin, a 2001 graduate from Louisville, reporters; Shane Holinde, a Bowling Green senior, weather; Noelle Bye, a senior from Evansville, Ind., and Jason Thomason, an Arlington senior, photographers; and Kelly Sparks, a Thelma junior, graphics.
The nominees for the 16th Annual Mid-South Regional Emmy Awards were announced Nov. 16 at a reception at BMI headquarters in Nashville.
Four other WKU graduates working at Nashville television stations also were nominated for Regional Emmy Awards: Scott Couch, WTVF; Dorinda Carter and Jennifer Johnson, WSMV; and Kendra Newson, WKRN.
The awards ceremony will be held Feb. 2 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville.
