Honored In Hearst Contest
Bowling Green, Ky. - Two Western Kentucky University photojournalism students have been honored in the 42nd annual Hearst Journalism Awards Program.
In the feature and portrait/personality photography competition, Jed Conklin, an Owensboro senior, finished 10th while Valerie Tobias, a senior from Kenosha, Wis., tied for 11th. Conklin will receive a $500 scholarship.
After the first of three photojournalism competitions, Western is fifth behind Florida, North Carolina, Ball State and San Francisco State.
The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, which includes six writing and four broadcast news competitions, recognizes excellence in writing, photojournalism and broadcasting. Western has won the overall intercollegiate title for the past two years.
