Veterans Upward Bound At WKU Receives Donation
Bowling Green, Ky. - The Veterans Upward Bound program at
Western Kentucky University has received a $1,000 donation from
a Bowling Green group.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5712 made the donation after a
suggestion by VFW member Edwin Phelps, a participant in the Veterans
Upward Bound program.
"This came about because of a satisfied participant who
wanted to say thanks for the services we are providing him,"
said Randy Wilson, director of the WKU program. "He presented
the idea to the VFW and his efforts paid off."
The donation was presented to Wilson recently at the 2001 Veterans
Upward Bound awards banquet by Phelps and Don Poston, quartermaster
of the VFW post. The money will be used to assist graduates of
the VUB program, Wilson said.
Veterans Upward Bound is a free educational program that provides
classes and enrollment services for U.S. military veterans who
wish to prepare to enter college or vocational-technical school.
