WKU Returns To Self-Operation Of Student
Health Service
Bowling Green, Ky. - Effective Monday, Western Kentucky University
will return to self operation of its campus student health services.
Collegiate Health Care, which has provided student health services
since Sept. 1, 1999, today notified its employees that it would
be out of business at the end of the day. Those 17 employees
will be hired by Western on a temporary basis through the end
of the spring semester, said Gene Tice, vice president for Student
Affairs and Campus Services.
"We want to assure our students that they will see no
reduction in health services this semester as we deal with these
changes," Dr. Tice said. "The staff at the WKU
Health Care Clinic has been dedicated to serving the needs of
our students and expect that level of care to continue."
Dr. Tice, Human Resources Director Tony Glisson and Health Care
Center Director Libby Greaney met with the staff this morning
to discuss the changes and begin the paperwork to move them to
the University payroll.
"We will be returning to self-operation of student health
services," Dr. Tice said. "The current staff
has made significant improvements in the delivery of health services
to our students and we plan to continue to build on those improvements."
Dr. Tice said there are many issues that will have to be resolved
over the coming weeks, but assured the students that services
will continue to be available at the Health Care Center. "We
will be focused on the future," he said.
