Health Fair Set For Wives/Widows/Spouses
Of Veterans
Bowling Green, Ky. - The Kentucky Nurses Association and
Western Kentucky University's Department of Nursing are sponsoring
a health fair for the wives, widows and spouses of military veterans
on April 5.
The free screening and health information will be available from
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 23, 208 Dishman
Lane in Bowling Green. Food and door prizes will also be available.
Services offered will include sessions on foot screening, stroke
awareness, energy conservation, blood sugar check, glaucoma screening,
vision screening, hormone replacement therapy, depression/anxiety
screening, body fat analysis, urinary incontinence, cancer prevention,
domestic violence and reducing the risk of rape.
"The Kentucky Nurses Association, District Seven, became
aware of the limited access to health services to health services
for the spouses of Veterans; therefore, we wanted to offer a
time for screening and free health information for this much
deserving population," said Deborah Williams, associate
professor of Nursing at Western. "Nurses have a great deal
to offer in terms of health promotion and the fair will provide
us an opportunity to serve the 10-county BRADD area."
For more information, including directions and ride information,
contact the American Legion Post at 781-3574 or Susan Jones,
associate professor of Nursing at WKU, at 745-3213.
