Boone County Wins State Speech And Debate Tournaments


Bowling Green, Ky.
- Boone County High School won the Kentucky High School Speech League's Senior State Speech and Debate Tournaments at Western Kentucky University.

Top 10 finishers in the March 22-24 speech tournament were: Boone County, Knott County Central, Danville, Graves County, Greenwood, Paul L. Dunbar, Murray, Calloway County, Bethlehem and Kentucky Country Day.

Top finishers in the debate sweepstakes were Boone County, Sacred Heart Academy and St. Xavier.

LaRue County won the Horizon Award, given to schools with fewer entries that receive a high number of sweepstakes points. Other top finishers were Montgomery County, Tates Creek, Lafayette and Bowling Green.

Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Joelle Perry, Boone County, state champion; Stephanie Kohler, Sacred Heart Academy, runner-up.
