Cecile Garmon With
Athena Award
Bowling Green, Ky. - Cecile Garmon, associate professor of
Communication at Western Kentucky University, has been honored
by the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Garmon received the Athena Award for her contributions to
the community and the advancement of women in the business world.
The Glasgow native said she was surprised and honored by the
award.
"It's a very nice thing at this age to be recognized
by your community," she said. "It's nice to
have people reinforce what you think is important."
Dr. Garmon has been in education for 40 years, the last 21 at
Western. Although she has never worked in Glasgow, she helped
start Leadership Glasgow, was one of the early members of Leadership
Kentucky and is a past president of the Kentucky Women's Leadership
Network. She recently spent several months in Mexico on a Fulbright
Scholarship.
Dr. Garmon said she is looking forward to programs and events
sponsored by the national Athena Foundation to encourage winners
to continuing their contributions.
