U.S. Army Ground Forces
Band To Perform At WKU
Bowling Green, Ky. - The U.S. Army Ground Forces Band will
perform at Western Kentucky University on April 5 as a part of
its spring tour.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Van Meter Auditorium. Free
tickets are available through the Special Events Office in Van
Meter or at the door.
The board was organized as the Fourth Infantry Regiment Band
in 1845. It's heritage includes 26 campaign streamers and the
French Croix de Guerre with Guilt Star. Members of the band fought
in the Mexican War and it became the only Army band to receive
a combat distinction from a U.S. president.
The 55-member band includes a 1979 WKU graduate, Master Sgt.
Lee A. Stofer Jr. The Hopkinsville native will be concluding
his 22-year career as an Army bandsman with the concert at his
alma mater.
