Bowling Green, Ky. - For the second consecutive year, a Western
Kentucky University student has been awarded a Rotary International
Ambassadorial Scholarship.
Brittany Lyn Long, a senior from Louisville, will receive up
to a maximum $25,000 to study abroad during the 2002-2003 year.
Long, a Spanish and history major, is the daughter of Anna and
Gary Long and is a graduate of duPont Manual Magnet High School.
The Ambassadorial Scholarship is used to cover round-trip transportation,
tuition and fees, room, board and necessary educational supplies
for one academic year. She plans to study in Spain or Ecuador.
This summer, Long received a $1,000 Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad
Scholarship to study in Spain.
Long, who was sponsored by the Bowling Green Noon Rotary Club,
is the second consecutive WKU student to receive the Ambassadorial
Scholarship from Rotary District 6710, which includes about half
of Kentucky.
Last year's recipient, Leandra Celaya of Mayfield, will leave
this summer for a year of study in England. Celaya, a corporate
and organizational communication major, is a May 2001 graduate.
Designed to promote international understanding and goodwill,
the scholarships give students the opportunity to study in one
of the more than 160 countries where Rotary Clubs are located.
