Western's Public Radio Announces Poetry Contest
Winners
Bowling Green, Ky. - The Public Radio Service of Western
Kentucky University has announced the winners of the fifth annual
Classical Music Poetry Contest.
The winner in Category I (grades 7-8) is Katie Huber of
Glasgow. Whitney Bishop of Glasgow finished second.
The winner in Category II (grades 9-12) is Derek McDowell
of Buffalo. Amanda Rochefort of Hodgenville finished second.
The winners received a $200 U.S. Savings Bond while the second
place finishers received a $100 bond. The winning poems will
be published in the September issue of Choice, the station's
program guide.
Terry Reagan, director of development for Western's Public Radio,
said there were more than 150 entries from across Kentucky in
the contest, which was co-sponsored by the law firm of Harned,
Backert and Denton.
Poems were based on Chopin's "Grand Waltz" or Bach's
"Arioso."
Western's Public Radio is WKYU-FM in Bowling Green/Glasgow, WDCL-FM
in Somerset, WKPB-FM in Henderson/Owensboro and WKUE-FM in Elizabethtown.
