Science Teachers To Participate In Astronomy
Workshop
Bowling Green, Ky. - Eleven high school science teachers
will be at Western Kentucky University next week for a Hands-on
Universe workshop.
The workshop, hosted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy,
will include visits to the upgraded astrophysical observatory
and 24-inch optical telescope; lectures by professional astronomers;
presentations at the Hardin Planetarium; and instruction in the
Hands-on Universe software, telescope network and lesson plans.
Workshop sessions are scheduled Monday through Saturday.
Hands-on Universe is a federally funded program to boost high
school students' interest in science, mathematics and technology.
Using the Hands-on Universe network in the classroom, teachers
can provide students with the same tools used by professional
astronomers, including images of objects from large observatories
and software to analyze data.
