WKU Regents Approve Ammended Settlement In
Reverse Discrimination Lawsuit
Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University Board
of Regents today approved an amended settlement in a reverse
discrimination case.
The board approved the amendments to a settlement reached with
Virginia Pfohl. Pfohl had been a candidate for a faculty position
that was filled by a minority candidate.
As a part of the settlement, Pfohl and University officials have
agreed not to discuss its terms publicly.
In other business, the Board:
Combined two bachelor's degree programs in music to create the
Bachelor of Music in Music with options in music education and
performance.
Combined bachelor's degree programs in dietetics and hotel, restaurant
and tourism management to create a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality
Management and Dietetics.
Approved an Emphasis in Global Studies designation for baccalaureate
graduates who complete certain international learning experiences.
Approved a $5 increase in mandatory student fees. The annual
adjustment is tied to the Higher Education Price Index.
Approved second reading of a new committee structure. The Board
will now have four standing committees-Executive, Academic Affairs,
Finance and Budget and Student Affairs-in addition to the Special
Committee on Diversity and Internationalism.
