WKU Student Receives
Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship
Bowling Green, Ky. - A Western Kentucky University junior
from Louisville is one of 10 students nationally to receive a
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Scholarship.
Brittany Lyn Long will use the $1,000 scholarship to study in
Spain this summer. Long, a graduate of duPont Manual Magnet High
School in Louisville, is majoring in Spanish and history.
"I want to challenge myself," Long wrote in
her application. "I want to hone my communication skills
and improve my fluency, and I want to immerse myself in the culture
I have been drawn to since childhood."
Long said she has dreamed of this trip since her first Spanish
class.
"While visiting Spain this summer, I plan to utilize
every second to learn the language, to meet the people and to
learn about myself," she wrote.
Long said she has numerous options after graduating from Western,
from the Peace Corps to the U.S. State Department to education.
"The possibilities for my career path are endless-and I
like it that way," she wrote, "but I know that
wherever I eventually work, I will somehow use my language skills
and my compassion for other ethnic groups."
