Coming Home 2001 Activities Scheduled For
Feb. 24 At WKU
Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky University alumni,
including members of several
outstanding Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball teams, will
be Coming Home on Feb. 24.
Coming Home 2001 "is a chance for all alumni to come
back and really see how Western Kentucky University has progressed
through the years and see the future it holds," said
Mary Beth Frith, associate director of Alumni Relations and Annual
Giving.
The Hilltoppers close their regular-season schedule at 7 p.m.
Feb. 24 against Middle Tennessee State University. The game will
cap a day of reunion activities for WKU athletic teams.
All former Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball players are
invited for reunion activities at 5:30 p.m. in Diddle Arena's
auxiliary gym. An autograph session for the public begins at
6:15 p.m. The Warren County WKU Alumni Chapter will host the
reunion room activities.
Members of eight teams - Ohio Valley Conference champions from
1956, 1961, 1966, 1976 and 1981, the 1971 Final Four team, the
Lady Toppers' 1991 Sweet 16 team and the Lady Toppers' 1986 Final
Four squad - will be honored during the basketball game.
Members of Western tennis and golf teams will have reunion luncheons
Feb. 24. The tennis team will meet at noon at the WKU Faculty
House, while the golf team will get together at 11:30 a.m. at
the Bowling Green Country Club.
Coming Home 2001 activities aren't limited to athletics, Frith
said.
Activities for students include Big Red's Growl at 7 p.m. Feb.
23 on the fourth floor of Downing University Center. The pep
rally will feature the Hilltopper basketball team, the WKU cheerleaders
and the Topperettes.
The Coming Home King will be crowned at halftime of the game.
A student spirit contest also is part of the game activities.
In the arena's upper level, Topper Town activities for children
will be open from 6:15 p.m. until halftime.
