Coming Home 2001 Activities Scheduled For Feb. 24 At WKU

Bowling Green, Ky.
- Western Kentucky University alumni, including members of several outstanding Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball teams, will be Coming Home on Feb. 24.

Coming Home 2001 "is a chance for all alumni to come back and really see how Western Kentucky University has progressed through the years and see the future it holds," said Mary Beth Frith, associate director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.

The Hilltoppers close their regular-season schedule at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 against Middle Tennessee State University. The game will cap a day of reunion activities for WKU athletic teams.

All former Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball players are invited for reunion activities at 5:30 p.m. in Diddle Arena's auxiliary gym. An autograph session for the public begins at 6:15 p.m. The Warren County WKU Alumni Chapter will host the reunion room activities.

Members of eight teams - Ohio Valley Conference champions from 1956, 1961, 1966, 1976 and 1981, the 1971 Final Four team, the Lady Toppers' 1991 Sweet 16 team and the Lady Toppers' 1986 Final Four squad - will be honored during the basketball game.

Members of Western tennis and golf teams will have reunion luncheons Feb. 24. The tennis team will meet at noon at the WKU Faculty House, while the golf team will get together at 11:30 a.m. at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Coming Home 2001 activities aren't limited to athletics, Frith said.

Activities for students include Big Red's Growl at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 on the fourth floor of Downing University Center. The pep rally will feature the Hilltopper basketball team, the WKU cheerleaders and the Topperettes.

The Coming Home King will be crowned at halftime of the game. A student spirit contest also is part of the game activities.

In the arena's upper level, Topper Town activities for children will be open from 6:15 p.m. until halftime.
