Doris Thomas Receives WKU
Communication Alumni Award

Bowling Green, Ky. - Doris Thomas of Smiths Grove has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Western Kentucky University's Department of Communication.
Thomas, who earned her bachelor's degree in speech and master's degree in communication at Western, is vice president of marketing for Commonwealth Health Corp. She received the award Oct. 19 at the department's annual Alumni and Friends Dinner at the Bowling Green-Warren County Convention Center.
Thomas has served as chair of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, received the chamber's Athena Business Woman of the Year in 1990 and Volunteer of the Year Award in 1992, and has worked with the Bowling Green-Warren County Industrial Authority.
At Western, she has served in many capacities, including president of the National Alumni Board of Directors and as a member of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation Board of Directors, WKU Marketing Advisory Board, WKU President's Circle Advisory Committee and Communication Department Advisory Committee. In 1999, the Leadership of Bowling Green Alumni Association presented her with the Distinguished Leadership Award and the National Association for Community Leadership Award.
