Edwards Joins WKU As Assistant VP
For University Relations
Bowling Green, Ky. - A veteran in college communications and marketing will be joining Western Kentucky University as assistant vice president for University Relations.
Bob Edwards will join the Institutional Advancement staff in January. He has been the director of College Communications at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., since 1990. Before that, Edwards was director of corporate communications for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, academic marketing manager for Van Nostrand Reinhold Publishing, and assistant director of advertising for Anderson Publishing.
"Bob Edwards has more than 20 years of experience in public relations, media relations, marketing and communications in the corporate sector and a university community," said Tom Hiles, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Western. "Bob will only enhance an already strong University Relations staff and will play a key role in shaping overall communications and marketing plans for the university."
Hiles added: "We have a clear goal to be the best comprehensive university in the state and among the best in the nation. Bob will help communicate our successes and shape our message to both our internal and external audiences."
Edwards said he is looking forward to working at Western.
"I am excited about the opportunity to join the team at Western," he said. "I think Western Kentucky University is poised to assume a major role in higher education in Kentucky and beyond. I am looking forward to joining President Gary Ransdell and the administration in helping the university accomplish its mission."
University Relations includes the media relations, publications and communications offices. Those functions recently merged with Development and Alumni Relations to create the Institutional Advancement division following the retirement of Fred Hensley as chief public affairs officer.
