About 1,500 First-Year Students Expected
For M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan
Bowling Green, Ky. - About 1,500 Western Kentucky University
students will get an early start on the fall semester 2001 when
M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan begins Aug. 12.
M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan (Making Academic and Social Transitions Educationally
Rewarding) began in 1993 to assist first-year students in their
transition to college life.
Benefits for participants include early check-in at residence
halls, six educational workshops, social activities, special
events and sessions on WKU traditions and campus life. Commuter
students also can participate in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan activities.
The program and number of first-year students participating improve
each year, said Peggy Haas, coordinator of residential education
for WKU's Department of Housing and Residence Life.
The five-day program begins Aug. 12 with check-in and an opening
convocation. Other events include lunch with members of WKU faculty
and staff Aug. 13, a Whiffle ball game with President Gary Ransdell
and other administrators Aug. 13, a barbecue Aug. 14, and a WKU
spirit session and closing ceremonies Aug. 16.
