WKU Public Affairs Staffers Win Awards From
KAGC
Bowling Green, Ky. - Three staff members of Western
Kentucky University's Division of Public Affairs were honored
Tuesday with awards from the Kentucky Association of Government
Communicators.
Tommy Newton, communication specialist, received an award
of excellence in feature writing for a story on two high school
students who discovered an eclipsing binary star while in an
astronomy camp at Western. He received an award of merit in news
writing series for stories on Western's renovated robotic telescope.
Tom Meacham, director of publications, received an award
of excellence in four-color brochure for the Professional Graduate
Programs booklet.
Marcus Dukes, graphic artist, received an honorable mention
for his design of the cover of the 2000-01 WKU phone directory.
"These awards again recognize the creative efforts of
the staff in the Division of Public Affairs," said Fred
Hensley, chief public affairs officer. "The fact they
have been recognized by their peers is important and impressive,
but the consistent record of winning is the truest compliment
to their work."
The awards were presented during the Awards of Excellence 2001
luncheon in Frankfort.
