WKU Chemistry Graduate Student Receives Department of Defense Fellowship


Bowling Green, Ky.
-A graduate student in Western Kentucky University's Department of Chemistry will receive a fellowship from the Department of Defense.

Laura Wells of Bowling Green will receive a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship to study nanocomposite materials while pursuing a doctoral degree.

Wells will pursue a Ph.D. from the University of Louisville through the joint doctoral program between Western and U of L. She will conduct her research at WKU's Materials Characterization Center under the advisement of Dr. Wei-Ping Pan and Dr. John T. Riley.

The fellowship covers tuition and fees for three years toward advanced degrees in science and engineering at an accredited university and provides a yearly stipend of $20,000. Wells was one of 100 recipients out of 1,500 applicants for the NDSEG Fellowships.
She received a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Western and will complete her master's degree in chemistry this August.
