WKU'S Kell Honored For BooK On Southern Baptists
Bowling Green, Ky. - Dr. Carl Kell, a communications professor
at Western Kentucky University, has been honored for his book
on the Southern Baptist Convention.
"In the Name of the Father: the Rhetoric of the New Southern
Baptist Convention," received the 2000 Book of the Year
Award from the Religious Communication Association. The award
was presented during the National Communications Association
meeting in Seattle.
"In the Name of the Father," which Dr. Kell co-authored
with L. Raymond Camp of North Carolina State University, is an
analysis of the persuasive strategies and loyalist rhetoric of
the post-1979 Southern Baptist Convention when moderates were
replaced by ultra-conservatives, who have remained in power ever
since.
"This award is an honor for both of us," Dr.
Kell said.
The book is published by the Southern Illinois University Press.
