WKU Forensic Team Takes First At
State Tournament
Bowling Green, Ky. -- For the second consecutive state
tournament, the William E. Bivin Forensic Society at Western
Kentucky University placed first in all events.
Western won the overall sweepstakes with three times as many
points as second-place finisher Murray State University.
Individual results from the Feb. 18-19 event at Asbury College
are as follows:
Amy Jones, a Morehead junior, placed first in rhetorical
criticism, first in persuasion, first in informative, second
in duo, third in impromptu and first in pentathlon.
Shadana Dickerson, an Adairville sophomore, placed first
in prose, first in programmed oral interpretation, first in dramatic
interpretation, first in poetry, sixth in duo and second in pentathlon.
Kerri Richardson, a Shelbyville senior, placed first in
extemporaneous speaking, second in impromptu, fourth in debate
speaker points and fifth in debate.
David Wilkins, a Bardstown sophomore, placed first in
impromptu, fifth in extemporaneous speaking, third in debate
speaker points and fourth in debate.
David Laing, a Louisville sophomore, placed first in debate
and second in debate speaker points.
Matt Gerbig, a senior from Evansville, Ind., placed first
in after-dinner speaking, sixth in prose, third and sixth in
duo, second in dramatic interpretation, third in poetry and third
in pentathlon.
Jace Lux, a senior from Evansville, Ind., placed first
in duo, second in persuasion, fifth in prose and sixth in dramatic
interpretation.
Keith Blaser, a freshman from Evansville, Ind., placed
second in prose, first and third in duo, fourth in dramatic interpretation,
fifth in after-dinner speaking and fourth in pentathlon.
Phillip Wininger, a Bowling Green sophomore, placed second
in rhetorical criticism, sixth in extemporaneous speaking, fourth
in persuasion and third in informative.
Andrew Chamberlain, a freshman from Franklin, Tenn., placed
third in programmed oral interpretation, second in after-dinner
speaking and was the outstanding novice in impromptu.
Miranda Eubank, a Glasgow sophomore, placed third in rhetorical
criticism.
Stephen Barnett, a Versailles senior, placed fourth in
rhetorical criticism, second in duo, fifth in dramatic interpretation
and sixth in pentathlon.
Wesley Shirley, a Hodgenville senior, placed fifth in
rhetorical criticism, third in persuasion, sixth in informative,
third in after-dinner speaking, sixth in poetry and fifth in
pentathlon.
Sarah Sparks, a Morehead sophomore, placed third in extemporaneous
speaking and sixth in impromptu.
Alisa Ponananta, a Florence sophomore, placed second in
programmed oral interpretation, second in informative and second
in poetry.
John Allen, a Morehead sophomore, placed fourth in programmed
oral interpretation and fourth in duo.
Shellei Knuckles, a Florence junior, placed fifth in programmed
oral interpretation, fourth in duo and fourth in after-dinner
speaking.
Merritt Johnson, a Franklin freshman, placed fifth in
debate speaker points.
