Research

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Literature from Towson University.  She received her Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Communication, with an emphasis on Spanish, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  She has completed additional graduate work in Spanish at Trinity College in Washington, D.C.  

Bio

Bonita S. Phelps joined the Department of Modern Languages in 2001.   She has participated in seminars at the University of Minnesota and Michigan State University and the Habla Hispana Language School in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Her areas of research interest include intercultural communication, language acquisition, language pedagogy, and language origin. Mrs. Phelps teaches at the Glasgow campus of Western Kentucky University.  She has taught Elementary Spanish I, Elementary Spanish II, and Intermediate Spanish I.  In fall 2001, she taught a class in Glasgow titled "Spanish for Community Outreach".

She is a member of the Kentucky World Language Association (KWLA), the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, (ACTFL), the Maryland Foreign Language Association, (MFLA), and the National Museum of Languages. Mrs. Phelps has presented at conferences hosted by the Ohio Foreign Language Association, the Maryland Foreign Language Association, the Kentucky World Language Association and the Kentucky Communication Association.
