WKU hosted the 5th Annual Meeting of the Kentucky Chapter of the American Physiological Society

Bowling Green, KY- Western Kentucky University (WKU) hosted the 5th Annual Meeting of the Kentucky Chapter of the American Physiological Society on Saturday, March 18th, 2017.

Dr. Lee Winchester, Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, in thw WKU School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport (KRS) coordinated the meeting and served as the host liaison and is also the president-elect for the society.

Dr. Scott Lyons, WKU Dean of Graduate School, provided Welcoming Comments.

Dr. Cheyl Davis, WKU Associate Provost for Research and Creative Activity, gave a talk entitled, "Research and Creative Activity at Western Kentucky University" during the symposium "Research in Kentucky".

Five (5) KRS students submitted abstracts for the meeting and were also in attendance:
Gatton Academy: Julia Johnson (mentor - Dr. Jill Maples) 

WKU Exercise Science undergraduates: Hannah Fickey (mentor - Dr. Rachel Tinius) and Keagan Keen (co-mentors - Drs. Tinius and Maples)

KIN graduate students: Alyssa Olenick (mentor - Dr. Jill Maples) and Nuha Shaker (mentor - Dr. Jill Maples)

Julia Johnson won the High School / Undergraduate Poster Presentation Award and
Keagan Keen won the Undergraduate Oral Presentation Award.

WKU’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting has won the Hearst Journalism Award Program’s Intercollegiate Photojournalism Competition for the 23rd time in the past 28 years.

Gabbi Doolin Memorial Scholarship Fund Established

The memory of Gabbi Doolin will live on forever through the establishment of the Gabbi Doolin Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered through the College Heights Foundation at WKU.
