Certified Coders attend AAPC Training Bootcamp

Sondra Calvin and Linda Heady attended ICD(October 24-25):

General ICD-10-CM Code Set Training Boot Camp, led by ICD-10 certified trainers, held across the country (we went to Nashville) and provide a comprehensive two-day training on the ICD-10-CM Code Set.  The training focused on ICD-10 format and structure, complete in-depth ICD-10 guidelines review, discussed the nuances found in the new coding system with coding tips and completed numerous hands-on ICD-10-CM coding exercises.    As Certified Coders, Sondra and Linda are required to pass the ICD-10 Proficiency Assessment sometime between October 1, 2013 and September 30, 2015 to maintain their credentials and validate their knowledge of the ICD-10 code set.

Brief info on ICD-10:

The reporting of health care diagnoses and procedures in the United States will be changing on Oct. 1, 2014, jumping from roughly 14,000 ICD-9 codes to about 140,000 ICD-10 codes.  ICD-10 will change everything and require a significant effort for providers as well as health plans.
