WKU-Glasgow to commemorate 25th anniversary with celebration on Feb. 7

When WKU-Glasgow reopened its doors in 1988, 115 years had passed since A.W. Mell opened the Glasgow Normal School that ultimately became WKU. On Feb. 7, WKU-Glasgow will host a celebration from 10 a.m. to noon to commemorate the 25^th anniversary of WKU-Glasgow.

The event will begin with a reception and refreshments, followed by a program. Speakers will include WKU President Gary Ransdell; WKU-Glasgow Director Dr. Sally Ray; Former Dean, Regional Campuses, Dr. Elmer Gray; Former Mayor of Glasgow Robert Lessenberry; WKU-Glasgow Alumna Callie Christian; WKU-Glasgow Alumnus James Estes; and WKU-Glasgow Assistant Director Bill Walter. The event will also feature WKU-Barren County High School student Bailey Birge as she leads all guests and visitors in singing “College Heights.” Big Red will make an appearance. The festivities will end with tours of the campus.

“For 25 years, WKU-Glasgow has been faithful in providing educational access and opportunity to communities in southern Kentucky,” said John Roberts, Coordinator, Communications and Student Recruitment. “The 25^th anniversary celebrations that will happen throughout 2013 will give everyone an opportunity to reflect on WKU-Glasgow’s past, present and future.”

Feb. 7 will be the kickoff event in a series of anniversary celebrations. The next event will be April 16 at the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Breakfast.
