WKU students earn honors at national HOSA conference

A WKU student from Tompkinsville took first place at the national Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Leadership Conference.
Matthew Garvey placed first in Nursing Assisting. Garvey, a sophomore, is also a certified nursing assistant in the Emergency Department at TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
Other WKU students earning recognition at the June conference in Orlando were:
Joshua Davis of Louisville, top five in Extemporaneous Health Poster.
The team of Jason Godsey of Falls of Rough, Laura Hinton of Hardinsburg and Adrienne Beck of Louisville, top seven in Creative Problem Solving Team.
John Humphrey of Corydon was a competitor in Medical Terminology.
HOSA provides opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development for students interested in health careers. Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown to nearly 120,000 members through 47 chartered HOSA state associations and about 3,200 secondary and postsecondary chapters.

The World Council for Gifted and Talented Children announced Thursday (May 16) that Dr. Julia Link Roberts was re-elected as one of seven members of the Executive Committee.
Kathy Trulock achieves certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security.
The World Council for Gifted and Talented Children will host its 20th Biennial World Conference, "Celebrating Giftedness and Creativity," August 10-14, 2013, at the Galt House Hotel and Conference Center in Louisville, KY.
