On September 17, 2011 the WKU Social Work Department, Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society, and the WKU Graduate Student Social Work Organization participated in the 3rd Annual Cardboard Nation event held in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. This event raised over $16, 0000 for the Warm Blessings Soup Kitchen in Elizabethtown and publicized the plight of the poor and homeless in the local media. Warm Blessings is a charity that provides meals and emergency services to those in need in the Elizabethtown and surrounding areas. Participants raised money via pledges by renting and spending the night in a cardboard box, in order to simulate being homeless. WKU BSW and MSW students were joined by several social work faculty and their family members in this dynamic charity event. If you are interested in participating next year, please contact Dr. Jay Gabbard at 745-8749.
