Business Interests in Sustainability: Parts 1 and 2

These courses provide a survey of the many topics related to sustainability – from a business perspective. Readings, discussions, and field trips focus upon business interests in sustainability. They help students relate the opportunities and challenges sustainability issues create to own their future careers. This survey also helps students appreciate the efforts of businesses which are engaged in sustainable practices worldwide.

Metrics in Sustainability

This course will provide a practical understanding of processes for identifying and implementing sustainability goals, indicators and metrics in business operations. The European Community and other entities increasingly are requiring the reporting of certain metrics. Students will explore such metrics in the financial, environmental and social aspects of sustainability through readings, discussions, and lectures.

Entrepreneurial Opportunities in Sustainability

As the focus upon sustainability continues to increase, so does the number of business opportunities and related occupations within the field. Sustainability provides the potential for entrepreneurial development in products, services, consulting, processes, and systems. This course focuses on how to identify and take advantage of the numerous opportunities found within the field of sustainable development.

Social Entrepreneurship

In this course students will research and analyze the role Social Entrepreneurship plays globally. Social entrepreneurship is an emerging field that has significant importance in most countries, especially in developing nations. This course will look at actual case studies including major foundations and non governmental organizations (NGOs) that have had both positive and negative impact in the field of social entrepreneurship. In addition, the course will also provide an opportunity for students to look into how to start and implement a social entrepreneurial initiative.
