Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a city with a population of approximately 50,000. Bowling Green is situated at the intersections of Interstate Highway 65, the William H. Natcher Parkway, and U.S. Highways 31W, U.S. 68 and U.S. 231. This highway network hub affords excellent travel routes to and from Bowling Green. About the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
The previously separate departments of mathematics and computer science recently merged resources to form the newly created Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. This department is one of eight departments in the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. The Department features forty-three Mathematics faculty members and sixteen Computer Science faculty members. Forty-four of the Department's fifty-nine faculty members are doctorates in their academic specialties. Faculty members are active in teaching, pedagogical developments, research, grant writing, and public service efforts. Strong records of research have also been established among the graduate and undergraduate Mathematics and Computer Science majors. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science occupies two full floors (first and third) of the Thompson Complex Center Wing (TCCW) building. In order to provide the conveniences of organizational and disciplinary unities, the mathematics offices are located on the third floor of TCCW, and the computer science offices are located on the first floor of TCCW. The Department provides many teaching and learning resources dedicated to Mathematics and Computer Science including eight laboratory units, study and tutoring services, internship CO-OPs, student study groups, and WKYU-PBS special program availabilities. Additionally, all graduate student offices are provided with computers. Library resources include a large collection of mathematics books and monographs as well as subscriptions to over 60 professional journals in mathematics and computer science. All faculty and graduate student offices, departmental classrooms, learning centers and computer laboratories are located in the Central Wing of the Thompson Complex (TCCW) for the sciences. Degrees offered by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science include Bachelor's degrees and Master's degrees. These degree programs offer a variety of options regarding the goals and aspirations of such pursuits. Mathematics Education options are included among these offerings.
