Benefits of M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan
Increased Campus Knowledge
M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants benefit from the opportunity to move to campus a week early, before the upperclassmen arrive, before classes begin, to learn how to navigate campus, identify resources, locate classes, and gain "secrets of success" from student leaders, and WKU faculty and staff.
Social Support Network
Participation in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan provides new students with countless opportunities to form connections with fellow students. M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan activities are purposefully structured to encourage student interaction and facilitate the social networking process.
M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan's educational sessions provide new students with essential information and resources to help ensure their success at WKU. Students who participate in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan gain valuable insights into the college experience and learn about expectations for academic success from members of WKU's faculty and staff. As a result of engaging in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan educational sessions, students feel more prepared for the first day of classes and to take on the challenges of college coursework.
In addition to providing opportunities for peer-to-peer interactions, M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan also provides new students with opportunities to form connections with WKU faculty, staff, and administrators. Educational sessions facilitated by WKU faculty and staff provide opportunities for new students to pose questions and learn strategies for success. College meetings provide opportunities for new students to engage with faculty and staff within their academic colleges and degree programs. Special events like Convocation provide opportunities for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants to engage with WKU's President, Provost, and Vice President for Student Affairs.
Higher Level of Satisfaction with College Experience
Students who participate in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan report higher levels of satisfaction with their overall college experience, which has been shown to correlate with success in college.
M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan participants are retained, and graduate on-time, at a higher rate than students who do not to participate in M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan.
