UNDERGRADUATE MINOR IN LIBRARY MEDIA EDUCATION

INTRODUCTION

The undergraduate minor in library media education  requires a minimum of 18-24 semester hours of coursework. Courses cover the areas of organization and administration, reference skills, children's and young adult literature, and educational technology.  Required courses are LME 445 and 448 and 12-18 semester hours of electives chosen with the approval of a departmental advisor in consideration of a student's prior work experience, academic work, and career goals. (The undergraduate LME minor does not lead to teacher certification as a library media specialist.  Certification as library media specialist is obtained at the master’s level.)

Students enrolled in the undergraduate LME minor at WKU must make sure that at least one-third of the course requirements for the minor are earned at Western.  Also, a minimum of 43 undergraduate hours must be completed in upper division courses (courses numbered 300 and above) by students earning a baccalaureate degree.

COURSES

Three to nine hours of the undergraduate minor may be taken online through Bluegrass Community and Technical College. (http://www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu)/csis/lit  For these courses to be counted toward the WKU undergraduate minor, students must enroll and pay tuition to KCTCS and then transfer courses to WKU after completing them. Students who must maintain full time student status at WKU are advised to maintain this status at WKU (12 hours per semester) while taking courses with the KYVU.

New students and students who are not enrolled for a class in the current semester must submit an Application for Admission to Bluegrass Community & Technical College, Admissions Office, 200 Oswald Building, Lexington KY 40506-0235.
