Additional Information on Requirements
for the Master’s Degree and LMS Certification

Research Tool: Students who are required to take the Research Tool must complete the course with a minimum grade of "B"

Critical Performances and the Electronic Portfolio System: Critical Performances are specific assignments required in each LME course that students are required to include in their online CEBS Electronic Portfolio. The Electronic Portfolio demonstrates that students possess specific knowledge and skills required for their profession. In classes, students will receive information about registering and using the Electronic Portfolio System (EPS) to upload selected Critical Performances for their Electronic Portfolios. Some instructors require Critical Performances  to be uploaded to the EPS system before a grade is awarded.

The Professional Growth Plan And Professional Portfolio: Students must develop a Professional Growth Plan (PGP) at the beginning of their program (LME 501 & LME 512) and create a Professional Portfolio on a CD-ROM in their practicum course (LME 590). The Plan and Portfolio are based on state and national standards for Experienced Teachers, Library Media Education and/or Educational Technology. Portions of this Professional Portfolio comprise the Critical Performance for LME 590 and must be uploaded to the Electronic Portfolio System (EPS).

LMS Focus - Praxis II Specialty Exam: The PRAXIS II Specialty Examination is required by Kentucky for the P-12 Library Media Specialist Certificate.  This exam is not required for graduation from the LME program. The PRAXIS II Specialty Examination or another examination may be required for certification in other states. Students outside of Kentucky are responsible for determining the requirements for certification in their states. The PRAXIS II Exam is administered by the Educational Testing Service at various times and locations in Kentucky.
