• Develop library collections of educational materials in a
variety of formats for the ERC and Cravens Library. (Please see selected
bibliography representative of titles I have added to the education
collection, 2002-2006)
• Manage education collection by deselection (weeding), replacement,
updating of titles on various educational subjects, sending selected
materials for repair if they cannot easily be replaced
• Teach research/bibliographic instruction classes to teacher
education students, staff, and new faculty
• Interview, hire, train, and supervise 1.5 FTE staff and 9
student workers
• Engage student workers and education student patrons in successfully
navigating and using the ERC’s resources
• Regularly produce and update subject and topical bibliographies
and webliographies for CEBS faculty for new course proposals
• Regularly produce and update subject and topical bibliographies
and webliographies for CEBS students for children’s and young
adult literature and teacher education materials
• Encourage student workers to develop and implement ERC bulletin
boards and displays to showcase the variety in the ERC’s collection
• Promote Educational Resources Center to WKU campus and community
• Answer Reference questions for ERC patrons and instruct them
on effective searching of WKU Libraries’ TOPCAT online catalog
and databases
• Develop online reference pathfinders for course instructors

Children’s and Young Adult literature: Developing library collections
in various genres for a diverse audience of young readers; encouraging
reluctant reader
•International
library collaborations: Currently working on collection development
for Col-legi SEK Catalunya, a P-12 private school near Barcelona,
Spain, with Dr. Cynthia Houston, Western Kentucky University Library
Media Education faculty, and Mariela Gomez, English Consultant, Col-legi
SEK Catalunya. Created a pilot, hybrid library classroom project to
support English language instruction at the SEK—the ELALC or
English Language Arts Library Classroom. Developed and taught, with
co-investigator, Dr. Houston, library administration and collection
management workshops for two English teachers from the SEK, held at
WKU in July 2005 and 2006. Pilot project, grades 1 and 2, implemented
2005-06 academic year; grades P3 and P4, implementation for 2006-2007
academic year.

Librarians as teachers: Collaboration and research projects in K-12
and postsecondary educational environments
•
Developing and implementing methods of promoting library services
and collections to the community. For example, email newsletters,
exhibits and displays, library blogs, etc.

Bibliotherapy/reading guidance: Librarians’ roles in helping
young readers cope with emotional situations by identifying with characters
and situations in children’s and young adult literature.

Provost’s Initiative for Excellence Grant to support research
trip for international collaboration project to create English Language
Arts Library Classroom collections for Col-legi SEK Catalunya, a private
P-12 school near Barcelona, Spain. Co-investigator, Dr. Cynthia Houston,
Library Media Education faculty. The ELALC project is an exchange
between WKU-Col-legi SEK Catalunya. This resulted in Dr. Houston and
I writing the ELALC Proposal, which was accepted by the SEK Catalunya
as a pilot (2005-2006). Support was provided by the PIE grants for
the project in the SEK primary grades from 2005-2007. See more information

• Support as principal WKU researcher from College of Education
and Behavioral Sciences’ Teacher Quality Funds for continued

monthly showing, lecture, and discussion of a high-quality movies,
introduced by library faculty and staff. Open to the WKU community.
Showings included Much Ado About Nothing, The Wizard of Oz, Tuesdays
with Morrie, and The Complete Works of Shakespeare, Abridged, 2002-04.
• Scholastic Book Fair at the Educational Resources Center,
April and November 2002. Open to the WKU community and the public.
