Teaching/Librarianship
  • Mr. Yuan has been a member of the Department of Library Public Services faculty since 1997. He coordinates the web development effots of the University Libraries. Working with library faculty and staff, he oversees the Libraries' digital projects and implementation of web-based technologies such as the Libraries' blog, podast, YouTube video, and Flickr photos. Additionally, he works with faculty in academic departments to develop web-based or multi-media informational and instructional tools to support the curriculum. He works at the reference desk in accordance with a rotation schedule. His responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
    • Leads a 14-member Web Site Team consisting of University Libraries' faculty and staff in developing and maintaining the Libraries' web site, portal, blog, podcast, YouTube video, Flickr photos, and other web-based projects.
    • Co-edits Libraries' newsletter Collections & Connections, in charge of the web version of the publication.
    • Leads a 6-member University Libraries Blog Committee to implement UL Blog efforts.
    • Coordinates Kentucky Library and Museum digital projects.
    • Works with Libraries' Community Outreach Manager, Marketing Coordinator, and community partners to develop and maintain community outreach project web sites such as the Southern Kentucky Festival of Books.
    • Assists in library programs such as Far Away Places and Kentucky Live!
    • Assists with the TopSCHOLAR™ Institutional Repository project.
    • Acts as de facto photographer to document Libraries' events.
    • Participates in Libraries' instruction activities.
  • Teaches Chinese 101 and 102 as an ajunct instruction in the Department of Modern Languages (2004-present)
  • Teaches Chinese in the SCATS, Super Saturdays, and VAMPY programs sponsored by WKU's Center for Gifted Studies
  • Participates in the U.S. College Board's AP Chinese Reading Program beginning from 2007.
Research

Research interests include Web site design technology and issues, Chinese folklore, and Chinese multi-ethnic cultures.
