Note: "One of the most fascinating years that I ever
spent in my life was the year of 1958 when I served on the
Select Committee on Astronautics and Outer Space and during
this time we prepared the space law and set up the space committee.
We started moving and now have landed men on the moon. The
Soviet Union has been unable to land a man on the moon notwithstanding
the fact that on October 4, 1957 they succeeded in orbiting
the earth when we were unable to place a satellite in orbit
that weighed as much as ten pounds." [Journal vol. XXVII,
p.6,761, April 21, 1972] |
