Library Broadside Collection #203 (Alexander College Burkesville,
Kentucky Education) |
 |
This
broadside proclaims Alexander College, in Burkesville, Kentucky,
"The Atheneum of the Cumberland Region" and "A
Buzzing Hive of Active Minds". The school was founded
in 1867 and was named for Judge T. T. Alexander, a trustee
of the Presbyterian Church, which had control of the womens
school. Charles R. Hunt ran this school at the turn of the
twentieth century when this broadside was produced. The advertisement
lists tuition rates for various academic programs and board.
Music and piano instruction was available for an additional
fee. In 1906 a boys dormitory was added, but the institution
was closed by the Presbyterian Church in 1908. |
