John Minton

Biography


John Minton, born in Cadiz in Trigg County, Kentucky on July 29, 1921 received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. He served as principal of Trigg County High School from 1953 to 1958, when he joined the faculty of Western. He became Associate Dean of Graduate Instruction in 1962, then Graduate Dean, and Administrative Vice-President in 1970. When Dero Downing retired as Western's fourth president, Minton was appointed interim president effective January 8, 1979. He served in this capacity until July 31, 1979, when Donald Zacharias was appointed president. In recognition of his service, the Board of Regents recognized Minton as Western's fifth president. At the time of his retirement in 1986, he held the position of Vice President for Student Affairs.

Collection

The collection includes materials relating to Minton's presidency and his other administrative positions such as correspondence and files relating to academic departments, athletics, budgets and Title IX matters.
