Sheet Music Collection

Kentuckians have shared our nation’s tastes in music and contributed much to popular music of their day. From the family parlor, to the porch, to the dance hall and the church house, Kentuckians sing and play instruments. With over 2000 pieces of sheet music gathered from Kentucky musicians’ collections as well as private homes, the music of 1840 to 1950 comes alive.

As you’d expect, you’ll find show tunes and classical mixed in with folksongs. Kentucky composers Stephen Foster, Will S. Hays, Charlie Ward, and Haven Gillespie share Kentucky and their world. And if you have a tin ear, you’ll still enjoy the covers!
