Tutorials Information for Major-Specific UE Instructors | Information for Library & Museum Faculty Beginning this fall, your subject librarian will teach information literacy skills for the major-specific University Experience classes. You will need to contact your librarian to schedule the visit to Helm-Cravens Library. Sara McCaslin is still scheduling all visits to the Kentucky Building. Here is a link to the list of liaison librarians. When information literacy and library skills are presented in the context of a real assignment, students are much more likely to remember what they learned. Presenting information skills within the context of an assignment also helps students to transfer the knowledge for other classes. We therefore recommend that you talk with your liaison librarian about the final project. This will allow your librarian to use examples and to discuss major-specific resources that will relate to the class project. Because of the needs of your majors, the visit to Helm-Cravens Library will be slightly different. The personal librarians will spend more time discussing resources for the major instead of giving a physical tour of the building. However, we have a new video of the library, as well as an audio tour. Click here for the Library Video and the Audio Tour. We recommend that students watch the video and take the audio tour before they visit the library. The video is about 8 minutes, and the audio tour takes 15 minutes. The audio tour can be downloaded to the student's MP3 player. Students can also borrow an MP3 player with the audio tour already loaded. These are available at the circulation desk on the 4th floor of Cravens. The library has set up an Information Literacy BlackBoard Site for students in the major-specific sections. This BlackBoard site contains more specific information about how to search our databases and how to use the library. If you have any questions, please contact your liaison librarian. |
