![]() Other Names - Central Hall Date Built - Begun in 1962, completed in 1963 Date Razed - Cost of Construction - $1,300,000 Architects - Frank Cain and Ben Johnson Namesake - Dr. Minton was born in Trigg County in 1921. He received his bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Kentucky and his doctorate for Vanderbilt University. Dr. Minton was Western’s fifth president and served from January to August 1979. His career lasted 28 years at Western. He served 16 years as Vice President for Administrative Affairs. He was also a faculty member of the History department and served as a graduate dean. History - The eleven story building was an all male dorm when built. At the time, it was the tallest building in southern Kentucky. It contained space for 410 men and apartments for the director and assistant director a central elevator and air-conditioning. It was built on the old football practice field. The dorm was the tenth major building in seven years. The building, which houses 398 females, was dedicated on Oct. 25, 2002 to Dr. John D. Minton.
