William Lester “Gander” Terry of Marion, Ky., and a member of the 1928 championship squad of Western Kentucky State Teachers College, was signed as assistant football coach to Head Coach “Swede” Anderson by Athletic Director Ed Diddle las summer for the 1929 and 1930 season. The Western authorities could not have secured a better man to help fill out the coaching staff, and “Gander” has already proved his worth by the assistance he has been giving Coach Anderson with the Varsity and Freshman squads. According to Coach Anderson, Terry is the best guard ever to don a Western uniform, and his knowledge is not at all confined to the guard position, as he played center for the Hilltoppers last year and made fewer than two bad passes during the entire season. “Gander” played four years of football for Marion High School before coming to Western and kept up the good record by playing four years for the Hilltoppers; thus gaining much experience and knowledge of the game. He is a very popular fellow on the campus and has been affiliated with the different organizations on the Hill during his college career, and also sports an enviable record as a student in the institution, to which the professors of the different departments will testify.
