MEMORANDUM

TO: Faculty & Staff

SUBJECT: Minority Vita Bank

In order to enhance our goal of increasing the number of minority faculty members on this campus, I have asked our Affirmative Action Office to establish a minority vita bank. This should be a ready resource to garner additional names of minority faculty and staff for review by search committees.

All faculty and staff search committees at Western Kentucky University will be required to consult the minority vita bank to ascertain if there are additional applicants that could be obtained for a particular position. When a search is completed and an applicant has been chosen, the file on minority applicants should be sent to the minority vita bank for future reference. Each applicant’s materials will be filed according to discipline and/or expertise. I realize that the identification of minorities from applications may not always be possible.

Also, I want to encourage all of you to submit the names and credentials of potential candidates for positions that have not yet been opened to the minority vita bank for future reference. Although this will not solve the problem, it will be an additional attempt to increase the pool of minority applicants.

Please send the information described above for staff positions to Mr. James B. Tomes, Affirmative Action Officer, Department of Personnel Services. Similar information for faculty positions should be sent to Dr. Ruby F. Meador, Associate Affirmative Action Officer, Office of Academic Affairs. These two individuals will maintain the minority vita bank and should be contacted when information is needed.
