How to get Full Text Articles From Google Scholar

WKU subscribes to a number of electronic journals ("e-journals"). The best way to find information on your topic is through the research databases provided by WKU Libraries. You should always start by using the appropriate library databases (such as ERIC, PsycInfo, Academic Search Premier, etc.).

However, Google Scholar provides a supplemental method of searching e-journals which can be helpful in finding information. Google Scholar searches across many e-journal packages and ranks results differently than the databases, which may help you to find more information.

Many of the e-journals WKU subscribes to are included in Google Scholar. In order to obtain the full text of these articles, it is necessary to set the "Scholar Preferences." This is very simple and only has to be done once. If you have any questions, call the Rererence Desk at 745-6125.

Open Google Scholar at http://scholar.google.com

OR

Open Google at http://www.google.com and click "more."
Select "
Scholar" from the drop-down menu.

Click the link for "Scholar Preferences."

Type Western Kentucky University in the “Library Links” box,
then click the "
Find Library" button.

Make sure the “
Western Kentucky University” box (or boxes) are checked,
then click the "
Save Preferences" button at the top right side the page.

Perform your search in Google Scholar.

TIPS:

Always put phrases in "quotation marks."
To find only articles that contain your search term(s),
put a
+ (
plus sign) in front of the word or phrase.

Proceed with search. Click the "Find Full-Text@WKU" link to open the article. There is no need to log in from campus.

From off campus, you will be directed to log in with your
WKU email username ("firstname.lastname") & password.
You will be linked to the database(s) or e-journal service(s)
that have the article available in full text.
