FirstSearch® is part of the database offerings of the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL). The core databases currently available in FirstSearch® are: ArticleFirst, Clase and Periodica, ECO, ERIC w/ E*Subscribe, GPO Monthly, MEDLINE, MLA, PapersFirst, Proceedings, World Almanac, and WorldCat. ArticleFirst contains bibliographic citations that describe items listed on the table of contents pages of journals in the areas of science, technology, medicine, social science, business, the humanities, and popular culture. Clase and Periodica indexes articles, essays, book reviews, monographs, conference proceedings, technical reports, interviews, and brief notes from 2,600 scholarly journals published in Spanish, Portuguese, French and English that specialize in Latin American social sciences, humanities, science, and technology. GPO Monthly Catalog indexes U.S. government documents from 1976 to present, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by administrative agencies. Free DatabasesCountry Studies (Library of Congress Federal Research Division) The Country Studies series presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of 102 countries throughout the world and examines the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors. Directory of Open-Access Journals The Directory of Open-Access Journals contains the full text of academic peer-reviewed journals that do not charge subscription fees. DOAJ is available directly at www.doaj.org. EDGAR Database of Corporate Information (Securities & Exchange Commission) EDGAR includes submissions that companies are required by law to file forms with the SEC, including the annual report on Form 10-K or 10-KSB, which contains much of the same information found in annual reports to shareholders. The site maintains publicly available filings submitted from January 1994 to the present. EDGAR filings are posted to this site 24 hours after the date of filing. The site is available directly at http://www.sec.gov/edgarhp.htm. FindArticles is a free database of interdisciplinary magazine and journal articles. Constantly updated, it contains articles dating back to 1998 from more than 300 magazines and journals. The database is available at http://www.findarticles.com. FirstGov (President's Management Council) FirstGov allows users to research government information and conduct government business online - such as applying for student loans, tracking Social Security benefits, comparing Medicare options and administering government grants and contracts. The database is available at http://firstgov.gov. HighWire contains free full text for 362 journals in the life sciences, along with indexing and abstracting for all journals in MEDLINE. Articles that are not free are available for purchase with a credit card. The database contains cited references (with free links to the full text of the articles), along with citation analysis of journals on HighWire. Free registration gives users the ability to email Table of Contents (TOC) alerts. This database is available on campus, and off-campus with WKU email and password login. Go to top Ingenta Ingenta indexes articles from over 26,000 magazines and journals. Searching and browsing are free. You may sign up for email Table of Contents (TOC) alerts from up to five journals and purchase individual articles with a credit card. If you would like to purchase an individual article or use the Table of Contents alerting services, you need to register with Ingenta. Search for unique historical materials specific to Kentucky. Resources include archival finding aids, photographs, sound recordings, diaries, letters and more. Materials included in the Kentuckiana Digital Library are held by special collections and archives departments in libraries throughout Kentucky. Library, Information Science, & Technology Abstracts Library, Information Science, & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 600 periodicals, plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, and information management. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s. Gale's Literary Index, a master index to more than 50 of the major literature series published by Gale Group, Inc., combines and cross references more than 130,000 author names and 160,000 titles into one source to provide users access to complete biographies and critical essays. National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) The Clearinghouse is a national resource for professionals seeking information on the prevention, identification, and treatment of child abuse and neglect and related child welfare issues. NLM Gateway (National Library of Medicine) NLM Gateway provides access to the following U.S. National Library of Medicine databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, LOCATORplus, AIDS Meetings, HSR Meetings, HSRProj, MEDLINEplus and DIRLINE. MEDLINE/PubMed provides journal citations for medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences back to 1966. OLDMEDLINE provides MEDLINE references from 1958 to 1965. LOCATORplus is the catalog of the U.S. National Library of Medicine book, serials, and audiovisual materials. AIDS Meetings is a database of conference proceedings on AIDS. HSR Meetings and HSRProj are two health services research databases. MEDLINEplus is an index covering health information for the layman. Finally, DIRLINE is a directory of medical libraries in the U.S. Occupational Outlook Handbook (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) The Occupational Outlook Handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, and expected job prospects in over 250 occupations. You can search by occupation, browse through various categories (Sales, Service, Mechanics, etc.), or browse the alphabetical listing of jobs in the A-Z Index on the page. PubMed (National Library of Medicine Full-Text Journals) PubMed allows users to access the 9 million citations in MEDLINE (with links to participating online journals), and other related databases. MEDLINE is the NLM's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the healthcare system, and the preclinical sciences. The Database contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from over 3,800 current biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 foreign countries. The file contains over 8.6 million records dating back to 1966. PubMed Central (National Library of Medicine) PubMed Central is a digital archive of full-text life sciences journal literature managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). Access to PubMed Central (PMC) is free and unrestricted. RAND is a nonprofit institution that helps improve public policy through research and analysis. Use the online index of RAND Abstracts to search for reports that detail the research of RAND. The library has selected RAND reports through 2002.
UK-ETD provides worldwide access to electronic theses and dissertations prepared and submitted by University of Kentucky graduate and doctoral students. The database includes all disciplines with graduate or doctoral programs at the University of Kentucky from 2000 to the present which were published as electronic documents. Zacks Investment Research (Fomerly University Analyist Watch) Zacks Investment Research is a free Web based financial research program.
