Guidelines
Eligibility:
Books eligible for the Kentucky Literary Awards must have
been written by a Kentucky author or have a Kentucky-related
theme. A Kentucky author is defined as a writer meeting
one or more of the following qualifications: a native-born
Kentuckian; an author living in Kentucky; an author whose
permanent home address is Kentucky but who does not at present
live in Kentucky.
Any
individual, organization, or company may nominate books
to be considered for these awards. The book must have been
published and distributed between January 1 and December
31, 2003. No self-published, publish-on-demand, non-English,
or re-printed book will be considered. Textbooks, children’s
books, edited collections and anthologies will not be considered.
Categories:
Entries may be submitted for either of the following
categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry.

Entries
must be postmarked on or before January 15, 2004. The completed
entry form and three copies of the book (non-returnable)
must be on hand prior to that date. Entries will be forwarded
to judges on receipt, so please enter as soon as possible.
The Southern Kentucky Book Fest, as part of its management
will request adjudication copies of eligible books nominated
by interested readers. No entry fee is required. For more

Judges:
A panel of judges will consider all entries. Awards
will be granted at the discretion of the panel. Panel members
will represent a broad spectrum of expertise. Entries will
be judged principally on the quality of the writing, but
interpretation, organization, and presentation will also
be considered in the decision.
Announcement
of winners: Winners will be announced on April
16, 2004.
Award:
Winners will be given a handsome commemorative certificate
and a cash prize of $1000.
