About Us

Leadership Studies offers a great variety of courses, programs, and services for those interested in studying the Art of Leadership.  We have certificates at both undergraduate and graduate levels, the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership, the Minor in Organizational Leadership, and the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership. In addition, we provide services of leadership skills training to a variety of groups both inside and outside the University

The Leadership Studies Certificate Program at Western Kentucky University was launched in the spring of 2003. In 2004, the Center for Leadership Excellence was established.

From 2004 until 2011, Leadership Studies occupied the ground floor of Cravens Library as the Center for Leadership Excellence (CLE). A Steering Committee composed of faculty and staff from across WKU has served as overseers of the program until it was moved into the University College in 2008. Currently, the CLE is located with other University College units in Tate Page Hall 220.

In 2012, the Board of Regents approved the Leadership Studies Program's request to have its name changed to the School of Leadership Studies. Along with the change of name also came the approval of a new Minor in Leadership Studies. Students were first able to sign up for the minor in the fall semester of 2012. In 2013, the School of Leadership Studies was merged into the School of Professional Studies and all programs were renamed Organizational Leadership.

Our faculty is interdisciplinary with strong emphases in leadership skills, theory, and application, and our course offerings include aspects from a wide range of academic and applied areas in which leadership forms a focus.

The future continues to look bright as the road is being laid for success here in the School of Leadership Studies!
